Basic Disclosure.  A Basic Disclosure is available to Anyone in the UK for any purpose - e.g. Where a person’s job is working in a position of trust, or working in premises unsupervised, or required to work within the Aviation Security sector (Airside), for a personal licence, for a Visa Applications or in any position where it is required by an employer to obtain a criminal record history.

A Basic DBS will contain details of convictions and conditional cautions that are considered to be unspent under the terms of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.  A Business or an applicant can apply for a Basic Certificate directly and use it for a wide variety of employment or other purposes, including insurance or certain licensing, such as street trading.

If  you need a Basic Disclosure check for a job in Scotland, then your application will go to Disclosures Scotland, for work in England & Wales the application will go to the DBS.

If you want a check for personal reasons rather than work purposes, then you apply as appropriate to where you live.  i.e  to the DBS if you live in England & Wales and to Disclosure Scotland if you live in Scotland

A Standard Disclosure. This is available to those working in roles as specified in the Exceptions Order to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974.  Standard certificates show current and spent convictions, cautions, reprimands and warnings (statutory disposals given by a police officer to a young person who admits guilt) held on the Police National Computer (PNC).

An Enhanced Disclosure. This is the highest level of check available to anyone involved in regularly caring for, training, supervising or being in sole charge of vulnerable groups, including children and other positions involving a high degree of trust, for example, certain licensing purposes.  Enhanced certificates contain the same information as the standard certificate but with the addition of relevant police information held by a police force at a local level rather than national and, in some cases, where permitted to request, details of whether the individual is included on the lists of those barred from working in the children's and/or the adults' sector.

An Enhanced Disclosure without barring. This is the highest level of check available to contractors working in Schools and colleges.  Schools and colleges should ensure that any contractor, or any employee of the contractor, who is to work at the school or college, has been subject to the appropriate level of DBS check.  Contractors engaging in regulated activity will require an enhanced DBS certificate (including barred list information).  For all other contractors who are not engaging in regulated activity, but whose work provides them with an opportunity for regular contact with children, an enhanced DBS check (not including barred list information) will be required. In considering whether the contact is regular, it is irrelevant whether the contractor works on a single site or across a number of sites.

Self-employed workers or individuals cannot carry out a standard or enhanced DBS check on themselves, however, an individual or self-employed person can arrange for a basic disclosure check to be carried out here.

Any of the following words will find HRBC when you need to complete your dbs checks online: basic dbs check, disclosure Scotland check, standard dbs check, enhanced dbs check, enhanced without barring dbs check, enhanced dbs check online, dbs disclosure check, dbs enhanced check & apply for enhanced dbs check.

As disclosure is now an essential element in the recruitment process for many types of jobs, your organisation may/will need to comply with statutory requirements to meet national regulations particularly if working with vulnerable people and/or children.

Our aim is to provide your organisation with a range of services to help you to meet those obligations and to fulfil your responsibilities. In doing so we provide many organisations with a solution to ensure compliance is achieved with the minimum effect upon resources.
